Cookie Policy
Effective Date: September 3, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how Esthetic Dent ("the Clinic," "we," "our," or "us") uses cookies and similar technologies on this website, what information those technologies collect, who receives it, and how you can accept, refuse, or withdraw your consent at any time. It forms part of, and should be read together with, our Privacy Policy.
1. What Are Cookies
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device when you visit it. Cookies allow the site to recognize your browser on a later page or a later visit, and are widely used to make websites work, to remember preferences, and to measure how a site is used.
This policy also covers technologies that work in a similar way, including tracking pixels, web beacons, software development kits, and browser storage such as local storage and session storage. Where this policy refers to "cookies," it refers to all of these technologies.
Cookies placed by this website are called first-party cookies. Cookies placed by a service we load into this website, such as an analytics or customer relationship management provider, are called third-party cookies.
2. Categories of Cookies We Use
We group the cookies on this website into three categories:
- 2.1Strictly necessary cookies. Required for the website to function and to record the cookie choices you make. These cookies cannot be switched off through our preference controls, and we do not require your consent to set them.
- 2.2Analytics cookies. Help us understand how visitors find and use the website — which pages are read, how long visits last, and which sources bring people to us — so that we can improve the content and the experience. These cookies are optional and are only set with your consent.
- 2.3Functionality cookies. Support features such as the chat widget, including recognizing you between messages so a conversation can continue. These cookies are optional and are only set with your consent.
We do not use advertising, retargeting, or cross-site behavioral advertising cookies on this website, and we do not sell the information collected through cookies.
3. Cookies Used on This Website
The tables below list the cookies used on this website, grouped by the provider that sets them. Cookie names and durations are set by those providers and may change; each provider maintains its own current list, which we link to in section 6.
3.1 HubSpot
HubSpot is the customer relationship management platform we use to receive and manage consultation requests, contact form submissions, and chat conversations.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration | Category |
|---|---|---|---|
| __hstc | Main visitor tracking cookie. Records the time of your first visit, your previous visit, your current visit, and a session number. | 6 months | Analytics |
| hubspotutk | Identifies your browser with a unique token. Used to avoid creating duplicate contact records when you submit a form. | 6 months | Analytics |
| __hssc | Counts page views within a single visit and determines whether the session counter should increase. | 30 minutes | Analytics |
| __hssrc | Detects whether you have restarted your browser, so that a new session can be recorded. | Session | Analytics |
| messagesUtk | Recognizes you in the chat widget so that a conversation and its history can continue across pages and visits. | 6 months | Functionality |
| __hs_cookie_cat_pref | Records which cookie categories you have consented to. | 6 months | Strictly necessary |
| __hs_opt_out | Remembers that you declined cookies, so that you are not asked again on every page. | 6 months | Strictly necessary |
| __hs_do_not_track | Prevents tracking data from being sent to HubSpot. | 6 months | Strictly necessary |
3.2 Google Analytics
Google Analytics 4 produces aggregate statistics about how the website is used. It does not tell us who you are by name.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration | Category |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Stores a randomly generated client identifier that distinguishes one browser from another. It does not contain your name or contact details. | 2 years | Analytics |
| _ga_<container-id> | Maintains session state for the Google Analytics 4 property, so that page views within one visit are grouped together. | 2 years | Analytics |
3.3 Google Tag Manager
Google Tag Manager is a container that loads the measurement tags described above. It does not set analytics cookies of its own and does not collect personal information by itself; what it collects depends on the tags it loads, which are the ones listed in this policy. When Google Analytics is loaded through it, a short-lived technical cookie named _dc_gtm_<property-id> may be set to limit the rate of requests. It expires after approximately one minute.
4. What These Cookies Collect
Through the cookies described above, the following information may be collected about your visit:
- 4.1Your IP address, which may be used to derive an approximate location such as country or city, and which Google Analytics shortens before storage.
- 4.2Technical information about your device, including browser type and version, operating system, screen size, and language.
- 4.3The pages you view on this website, the order in which you view them, how long you stay, and what you click.
- 4.4The website, search engine, or campaign that referred you to us.
- 4.5Randomly generated identifiers that allow your browser to be recognized on a later page or a later visit.
- 4.6Your interactions with our contact forms and chat widget, including whether a form was started, abandoned, or submitted.
Cookies do not give us access to your device, to files stored on it, or to any other website you visit.
5. Cookies and Health-Related Information
This is a dental clinic website, so the pages you read may reveal an interest in a specific treatment. We want to be explicit about what that means.
While you browse without identifying yourself, the analytics cookies described above record page views against a randomly generated identifier, not against your name. However, if you submit a contact form or start a chat conversation, HubSpot may associate the browsing history stored under the hubspotutk identifier with the contact record created from your submission. From that point, the treatment pages you visited before contacting us may be linked to you as an identified person.
Information of this kind is treated as sensitive personal data under Costa Rican law and as a special category of personal data under European data protection law. We use it only to understand your inquiry and to respond to it, and we do not use it to target advertising to you. Any clinical information you send us, including photographs, radiographs, and dental records, is handled as described in our Privacy Policy and not through cookies.
If you would prefer to browse this website without analytics cookies, you may decline them and still use every part of the site, including our contact forms.
6. Third-Party Providers and International Transfers
The cookies described in section 3 are set by service providers established outside Costa Rica, and the information they collect is transferred to and processed on their infrastructure, including servers located in the United States and the European Union. These providers act as our processors under written agreements and are not permitted to use the information for their own unrelated purposes.
- 6.1HubSpot, Inc. — see the HubSpot Privacy Policy and its current list of cookies.
- 6.2Google LLC and Google Ireland Limited — see the Google Privacy Policy and Google's description of the cookies it uses.
Because these transfers take your information outside Costa Rica, they are made on the basis of your consent and of the contractual safeguards agreed with each provider, in accordance with Law No. 8968 and, where applicable to you, the European General Data Protection Regulation.
7. Your Consent and Its Legal Basis
Strictly necessary cookies are set because they are required to deliver the website you asked for and to record the choices you make about cookies. They do not depend on your consent.
Analytics and functionality cookies are optional. They are placed only after you have given your consent, and they are not placed if you decline or simply do not respond. Under Law No. 8968, Protection of the Person Regarding the Processing of Personal Data, that consent must be informed, express, and free, and it may be revoked at any time in the same form in which it was given, without retroactive effect. If you are located in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the ePrivacy Directive and the General Data Protection Regulation require that this consent be obtained before any non-essential cookie is placed.
Declining optional cookies does not restrict your access to any part of this website and does not affect your ability to request a consultation or receive treatment.
8. How to Manage or Withdraw Your Consent
You may change or withdraw your cookie consent at any time, using any of the following:
- 8.1The cookie preference controls on this website, which let you accept or reject each optional category and change that decision later.
- 8.2Your browser settings. Every major browser lets you view, block, and delete cookies. Deleting cookies also deletes the record of your previous choices, so you may be asked again on your next visit.
- 8.3The Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, which prevents Google Analytics from collecting data on any website you visit.
- 8.4A Global Privacy Control signal sent by your browser or an extension, which we treat as a request to decline optional cookies.
Blocking strictly necessary cookies through your browser may cause parts of this website to stop working as intended.
Withdrawing consent stops further collection. It does not erase data already collected while your consent was in force. To request access to, correction of, or deletion of information already held about you, contact us as described in section 11 or as set out in our Privacy Policy.
9. How Long Cookie Data Is Kept
Each cookie expires after the period shown in the tables in section 3, unless you delete it sooner. A cookie marked "Session" is deleted when you close your browser.
The data collected through those cookies is retained by our providers according to their own retention settings. Google Analytics is configured to retain user-level and event-level data for the shortest retention period the platform offers. Information associated with a contact record in HubSpot is retained for as long as it is needed to serve you as a patient or prospective patient, and is then deleted or anonymized.
10. Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy when the technologies we use, or the law that applies to them, change. Any revision will be published on this page and takes effect upon publication. If a change materially expands how we use cookies, we will ask for your consent again before applying it.
